Pressbooks

Pressbooks is an open-source tool for authoring and hosting e-books, built on top of the WordPress content management system.

Hillsborough Community College Pressbooks

HCC Pressbooks is now available for full-time faculty. Faculty interested in a pressbooks account will need to complete the HCC Pressbooks Cerification Bridge Course.

All content on the public catalog must carry a (CC BY-NC) license. We will consider (CC BY-NC-SA) if content doesn’t exist in a particular field for cloning. Please ensure you are remixing content with licenses that allow for derivatives and can be released under the (CC BY-NC) license. Open textbooks increase faculty freedom by providing complete control of the content in courses.

Examples of e-books on the site include an Annotated Guide to the HCC Online Course High Quality Standards.

You don’t have to author e-books from scratch. The Pressbooks Directory has thousands of openly licensed e-books and textbooks that you can clone and import into our Pressbooks site. Faculty can contact ztc@hccfl.edu or cittfacdev@hccfl.edu for more information.

We have many plugins added to HCC Pressbooks such as H5P for authoring interactive content and accessibility tools to help keep your content accessible.

OER Creation Program

Faculty interested in creating content through our OER Creation Program can receive a stipend for their work. Faculty can choose to either create/adopt or adapt/adopt or an open textbook and pair it with an HQ Course. The Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) course will then be available on the Search for Classes.
