Unit 1: Theory, Practice, and Global Disasters

Imagine you’re watching a global disaster movie—something like a pandemic, a climate catastrophe, or even an alien invasion. Believe it or not, these films can actually help you grasp some of the more complicated ideas in international relations. They give you a chance to see how nations, governments, and organizations might respond to real-world global challenges. By looking at the way characters or nations handle crises in these movies, you can start to make connections to key concepts like international cooperation, resolving conflicts, and dealing with threats that cross borders. Plus, films can make these big, abstract ideas more tangible. It’s one thing to read about global institutions and non-state actors, but seeing them in action on screen can help you better visualize how they operate during a crisis. In short, these films offer a more interactive, relatable way to understand how the world works during times of global upheaval—and that can make learning both easier and more memorable for you!
